There have been a few XJs for sale here in Chicago that were so damn tempting. I just don’t feel like I can handle that kind of heartbreak right now.
I’d rather get married and divorced again.

The later ones aren’t as bad as the early ones but they’re still a bit “less reliable” than a normal car.

It’s blown out of proportion. I passed on a sweet XJ8 L for sketchy reasons. It was almost perfect.

XJ8 is quite a different animal. That’s after several years of Ford-funded modernization.
That said, I used to live near a British-car specialist indy that always had a half-dozen XJs in the front lot (along with lots of MGs and Triumphs, a Rolls or two, and the occasional Lotus Esprit). So many gorgeous curves all in one place. Those front fenders are like Betty Grable’s legs.
